Bio

I graduated from public school in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County (NC) system and attended NC State on a full academic scholarship. My undergraduate degree is in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, which gave me a firm background in math, chemistry, and physics. I also earned a minor in Spanish.

At NC State, I worked in the Physics and Math Tutorial Center. I also tutored students in the community. After completing my degree, I realized that helping students understand material and achieve their goals is more rewarding to me than working with chemicals. So I went back to school to get a teaching certificate and taught math in Durham Public Schools for four years: everything from Intro to High School Math for English Language Learners to AP Calculus AB/BC. I was thrilled to see three of my students awarded full scholarships, all of whom were first-generation college students.

I have been a full-time tutor since 2011. As a tutor, I am able to tailor my instruction to my students’ personal goals, so I can serve them better than I could as a classroom teacher.

Over the years I’ve tutored students of all ages, including many returning adult students. I’ve gotten to know many families and been fortunate to have some of the same students each year from middle school through their first few years of college.

When I am not meeting with students, I enjoy traveling and seeing live music with my husband Eli, and spending time with my cats, Salem and Iris.
